Biphasic sleep log, week 3

[Week 1] [Week 2] [Week 4] [Current Week]

March 15, 2007 - [1:11am] I was just going over the calculations for going to sleep for the up coming daylight savings.. to wake up at 6am as I usually do, I should be going to bed later, not earlier.. What was I thinking? Going to sleep earlier?!? Okay - so I have some options.  Go to sleep at 2:30am or wake up at 5am, or.. I could go to sleep at 1am and get 6 hours sleep..  I will think about my options.  Well, almost time to get to sleep, better get ready as I am feeling tired already.

[6:54am] Wide awake with the sound of the alarm.  The movie last night was interesting - there was a time or two that I did half jump with something sudden, but most of the time I was already half expecting something to happen.  'The Grudge 2' managed to keep me awake while watching it (despite the fact I was running close to my sleep time), but not bad enough to give me nightmares or chills - these days I am rather used to what most horror movies show..  Anyway, time for me to get breakfast and get ready for my classes today.

March 16, 2007 - [12:24am] I woke up from the nap about an hour into it for a quick bathroom break.. as usual with this type of interruption I was back to sleep pretty much the moment my head hit the pillow, but one hour is not a full sleep cycle.. still I don't feel tired through not having the full 90 minutes in sleep - maybe I have been refreshed enough to make it until my normal sleep time? We shall see.  Today I copied the entries from the 8th to the 14th of March into a page for week two - even though most of those entries are still on the page at this time, I am only keeping seven days on this main page, so for each new day, I remove the oldest day from this page.

[10:13am] Just finally getting around to updating the log.  The sleep went well, I have been working on things since I woke up at 6am.  Things are going well so far.

[10:52pm] Had to go for my nap 30 minutes late because a family member wasn't back yet to get the key for the back door.  If I had gone for the nap as usual, I would have been interupted anyway.  I still feel a little groggy from the nap, but that will change in a little as I wake up. :)

March 17, 2007 - [8:17am] Been up for just over 2 hours now.  I woke up a couple of times through the night, and I think I might have only gotten two sleep cycles.  Anyway, about 30 minutes before the alarm was to go off I woke up.. I then went back to sleep to get a nap of 30 minutes - not much but it could help if I only got two full cycles during the night.

March 18, 2007 - [1:47am] Arrrg! I can't beleive this!! The connect just crapped out on me and I lost the last post because I got a 404! Now I have to retype, and this time I will copy/past too to ensure that I have something I can re-add.

Why am I still awake? Don't I usually sleep now? Yes, I do, but today being daylight savings means that 3am becomes 2am, meaning an extra hour of sleep for most people, but me? I am staying awake for an hour so I can wake up at 6am as usual and not wake up in the middle of a deep sleep, as I might just do 60 minues into a cycle.  I also took my nap later to help compensate for staying awake - seems to be working.

My eyes seemed a little bloodshot this afternoon - I hope it is just because of the weekend and not a constant thing with biphasic sleep (I don't want people to think I am not getting enough sleep after all ;) six hours should be enough).  Seriously though, last time they started looking close to this bloodshot, I developed a problem where my left eye went red - I wouldn't have had too much of a problem with that, but I was photosensitive at the time (light shining into the eye hurt quite a bit, not something I can ignore easily).  I will keep this minitored.

As I write this though, the time goes from 2am to 1am.. I thought Daylight savings was supposed to change at 3am, not two - no change from my plans, just that I would have been screwed if I needed to wake up between 2am and 3am today.

March 19, 2007 - [6:21pm] Nothing much to report here.  Nap at 8:30pm last night went as usual, and I woke up at 6am as usual.  I was okay for most of the day, but then it came about halfway during the middle of a lecture, the whole drifting off into mini-naps, but then I doubt I am missing anything important in this class so far.  As for the bloodshot eyes, there has been no real advance on that, so maybe it is not going to be a problem.  Okay, there are another 11 days to go until I have done 30 days.. once I get there I will evaluate this experiment from these logs and maybe post some sort of summary.

March 20, 2007 - [10:52pm] Been a busy day today, but then Tuesdays usually are, starting with a class at 8am.  I got up at 6am as usual with the alarm with no barking from the dog.  I did wake up at one time, but that seemed to be right inbetween cycles rather in the middle of one.  I did well for the morning classes with no tiredness, but the lunchtime class was a little bittle of a struggle as it usually is.. perhaps it is the content? I can't be sure.  I tend to stay awake a lot better than when I started this experiment, but that could be just because I have structure to my sleep at this time.  The nap tonight was uneventful with me waking up not all that tired.
